What to Do If It Rains on Your Wedding Day

The number one question we get is what to do if it rains the day of my beach wedding.

First of all, almost all of our weddings went off as planned last year. If there is rain in the forecast it is important to urge guests to bring an umbrella. We have also had brides carry a white umbrella down the aisle. Beach ceremonies are typically shorter in nature so guests and participants do not mind holding an umbrella for a few minutes.

The picture above is of a spectacular double rainbow in Assateague Island that appeared immediately after the couple was married. The small amount of rain during the wedding had no negative affects on the ceremony. In fact, it was a hot June evening and the rain actually cooled things off and made for a wonderful evening.
In case of severe weather, it is up to the couple to have a back up plan. Other planners will offer "rain insurance" which may offer a small tent to stand under. However, this is of no use in case of thunderstorms or windy conditions.

We recommend contacting the reception venue or hotel you are staying at the provide a place in case of extreme weather. Nine out of 10 times the hotel, venue or even home rental will be able to provide a backup plan in case of extreme weather.
If you decide to work with Sunny Beach Weddings they will provide you with names of venues that will allow you to move the ceremony indoors free of charge.
